Design Purpose
This level introduces, reinforces, and twists the “gel” mechanic. Bounce gel can bounce the player and object while speed gel can accelerate the player.
Level Overview
Elements
Bounce gel: bounce the objects on it
Faith plate: bounce the character on it to a specific point
Tractor Beam: transform objects in specific direction (direction can be switch by button)
Speed gel: create acceleration for characters on it
Weighted button: pressed by mass to trigger corresponding item, release to recover it
Pedestal button: press to trigger connected item for several seconds, then released
Turret: fire laser to the character within its view
Cube launcher: launch a weighted cube
Piston platform: can move between the original position and triggered position
Closed field: a custom field programmed by me, blocking everything while turned on
Level Structure
Introduction Mini Levels
Mini Level 1
In mini level 1, the player learns how to make use of the conversion between kinetic and potential energy. A jump will convert potential energy to kinetic energy to create speed while traveling out of a portal.
Mini Level 2
In mini level 2, the player learns how to use speed gel to replace the function of “jump” operation. The speed gel will create speed without using potential energy.
Mini Level 3
In mini level 3, the player learns how to use bounce gel to jump higher on a surface.
Reinforcement Mini Levels
Mini Level 4
In mini level 4, the player makes use of both bounce gel and speed gel to double jump.
Twisting Mini Levels
Mini Level 5
In mini level 5, tractor beam and turret are introduced. The player makes use of tractor beam to carry the bounce gels to the head of turrets. When the bounce gels touch the turrets, they will bounce up and be destroyed.
Mini Level 6
In mini level 6, the player makes use of the bounce gel again to bounce up a weighted box. Making use of the box, the player can control the piston platform to rise himself up.
Mini Level 7
Mini level 7 tests the player’s understanding of bounce and speed gel. The player has to decide how to paint the ground (using bounce or speed gel) to travel through the tunnel.
